Transportation Insight Partners with Samaritan’s Feet to Provide Shoes and Hope to Those in Need
HICKORY, NC (October 24, 2017) – Volunteers from global Enterprise Logistics Provider Transportation Insight recently engaged with humanitarian relief organization Samaritan’s Feet at the Hickory Soup Kitchen to provide an uplifting message of hope and a new pair of shoes to more than 650 women, men and children in need. Service in Action – the non-profit, employee-led community service organization supported by the logistics provider and business strategist – mobilized more than 100 volunteers to participate in the annual event, a large part of Transportation Insight’s ongoing efforts to enable its associates to their devote time, talents and resources to those in need in the company’s constituent communities throughout the United States.

Regardless of where a Samaritan’s Feet Shoes of Hope distribution takes place, the message is the same. Volunteers wash the feet of those in need, talk with them about their future hopes and dreams, share with them a message of love and adorn their feet with a new pair of socks and shoes. All attendees then receive lunch and attend a festival where they play carnival games and win prizes.
“Many people put long hours into planning this event, and it has truly become a labor of love for all of us,” says Service in Action Chair Wendi Gonzalez. “There was definitely a presence of peace at the Hickory Soup Kitchen on Saturday. It was a blessing to be able to participate in such a wonderful cause and help Samaritan’s Feet spread its uplifting message to so many.”
As a child growing up in Africa, Samaritan’s Feet Founder Manny Ohonme received his first pair of shoes at age 9 from a missionary. With that pair of shoes, he started playing basketball and other sports. After high school, he received a basketball scholarship to the University of North Dakota-Lake Region, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He spent 10 years in the marketing and logistics business working his way up the ladder, but he never forgot the children from his homeland who were still living under the strain of poverty, drug abuse, war, gangs and other criminal activity. Determined to help the impoverished, he left the corporate world to fulfill his dream of creating a world with zero shoeless children.
“We believe at Samaritan’s Feet that it is the human right of every child to be able to own a pair of shoes,” Ohonme says. “To us a pair of shoes is not just a pair of shoes. It’s a vehicle to inspire those children and remind them that the God that created them wants to do something spectacular in their lives.”
Through Service in Action, Transportation Insight associates in all company locations partner with numerous charitable organizations in addition to Samaritan’s Feet.
