Transportation Insight Executives Serve with Samaratain’s Feet

HICKORY, NC, January 15th, 2010 – The relationship between Transportation Insight, LLC, and Samaritan’s Feet began in 1996. Manny Ohonme, now President, CEO, and Founder of Samaritan’s Feet, met Reggie Walker, now Director of Business Development for Transportation Insight, while they both were working at a software company in Charlotte, NC. In November 2003, Reggie introduced Manny to Transportation Insight’s CEO, Paul Thompson. Inspired by Manny’s perseverance and drive, Paul encouraged Manny to fulfill his calling and his dream – to motivate children around the world by carrying a message of hope and by providing 10 million new pairs of shoes to 10 million impoverished children in 10 years.

Samaritan’s Feet was founded in 2003 by Manny Ohonme. As a child growing up in Africa, Manny received his first pair of shoes at the age of nine from a missionary. With that pair of shoes, he started playing basketball and other sports. He earned a spot on a traveling basketball team and on his high school team. After high school, Manny received a basketball scholarship to the University of North Dakota – LakeRegion where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Manny spent ten years in the marketing and logistics business making his way up the ladder, but he never forgot the other little boys and girls in Africa who were still living under the strain of poverty, drug abuse, war, gangs, and other criminal activity. Determined to help impoverished people, Manny left the comfort and security of his executive position to birth the vision of Samaritan’s Feet.

In January 2008, Paul Thompson and his son accompanied Manny on a shoe distribution trip to Lima, Peru. After that inspiring trip, Paul approached the executives at Transportation Insight about volunteering with Samaritan’s Feet. Now two years later, nearly every Transportation Insight executive has traveled internationally with Samaritan’s Feet. Additionally, groups of Transportation Insight employees have taken local volunteer opportunities to help pack shoes for overseas distribution and to participate in a Samaritan’s Feet World Walk in Charlotte, NC. Through all of this participation, a stronger sense of community has been forged within Transportation Insight. Employees who have served together with Samaritan’s Feet now feel a special kindred bond because of their shared experiences. One employee summed up the alliance between the two organizations by saying “This experience is good for Transportation Insight and for Samaritan’s Feet.”
